This
is a
sign put on
London buses by the British humanist association.
This is my
response to it.
and this
and this
What's wrong with the first two of
these
statements?
They
suggest that you
won't enjoy your life if you honor God. Nothing
could be farther from the truth! Jesus said, "The thief does not come
except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may
have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John
10:10 NKJ) The Bible also says, "Delight yourself in the
LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart". (Ps
37:4 NIV) and "For I know the plans I have for you,"
declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to
give you hope and a future." (Jer 29:11 NIV)
There are 155 references to "joy" in the NKJV bible
214 in the NIV version
here are just a few:
"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of
righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit". (Rom 14:17
NIV)
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in
him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy
Spirit." (Rom 15:13 NIV)
"I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your
joy may be complete." (John 15:11 NIV)
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man
found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had
and bought that field." (Matt 13:44 NIV)
If
Christians are supposed to be so joyful why does it seem
like there are so few that are? Things haven't changed a
lot since Jesus time. Unfortunately more people
are living to impress other people with their religiosity and not
living to impress Jesus. (Not that he can be impressed he knows our
heart anyway!)
Jesus said, "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before
men, to be
seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet
before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets,
that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have
their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left
hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may
be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward
you openly." (Matt 6:1-4 NKJ)
Who then can I
put my trust in?
There is no one living on the face of this earth at this moment,
including the writer of this page, that will not let you down or
disappoint you in some way. Jesus, who came to earth as a man, died on
the cross to pay the price for our sins and rose again is the only one
who won't let you down.
But
how do I contact Him?
God said in the old testament: "You will seek me and find me when you
seek me with all your heart." (Jer 29:13 NIV)
And in the new testament Jesus said "Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For
everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened." (Matt 7:7-8 NKJ)
Isn't
God a big enough God to not mind if I credit the creation of the world
to someone (or something) else?
Suppose there was a girl (I am telling this from a
man's point of view, so reverse the sexes if you're a woman) you were
deeply in love
with. So you bought her a brand new Maserati, put a big bow on it,
attached a big card to it, and parked it in her driveway. Then
someone who didn't like you took off that card and
put one with his signature on it. Wouldn't it make you angry? Then
you tried to tell her that you
really bought her the car, but she wouldn't believe you. She became so
enamored with his supposed generosity that she gave all her
affection to him and eventually ended up marrying
him. Then he treated her shamefully, like a slave all of her life.
Wouldn't that make YOU angry! God created this world for our
benefit, and then even more than that, he came to earth as a man and
died and rose again to pay the price for our sins. Doesn't he at least
deserve a thank you!!!!!!! He deserves more than a thank you!! He
deserves thanks and praise and worship!!!! For he is the Lord of Lords
and the King of Kings forever and ever!!! Amen
Didn't we all
come from primordial soup?
No!!! Spontaneous generation
(living things coming from non living things) was disproved by Louis
Pasteur in the 1800's. It is an accepted rule in Biology that has never
been disproved. Life only comes from life. It does not spontaneously
generate. "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living
being." (Gen 2:7 NKJ)
What about evolution?
Evolution is a religion not a science. It cannot be proven in a
laboratory. Though there have been variations within a species there
has been no new species ever seen to evolve from another species.
What about fossils?
Fossils are proof that the world wide flood talked about in Genesis 6-9
is
true.

If
God is so good
why
does he allow so much evil ?
Because He did not make a bunch of robots but gives
each
person freedom of choice to do good or evil. Jesus told a story about a
man who planted good seed in his field:
Jesus
told them another
parable: "The
kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But
while
everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat,
and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds
also appeared. The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't
you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'
'An
enemy did this,' he replied. The servants asked him, 'Do you want us
to
go and pull them up?' 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are
pulling
the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow
together
until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First
collect
the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat
and
bring it into my barn.'" Matt 13:24-30 (NIV)
"Then he left the crowd
and went into the house.
His disciples came to him and said, 'Explain to us the parable of the
weeds in the field.' He answered, 'The one who sowed the good seed is
the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for
the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and
the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the
age, and the harvesters are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and
burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man
will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom
everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them
into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of
teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of
their Father. He who has ears, let him hear."
Matt 13:36-43 (NIV)
So God does allow evil to exist until the end when he will right
all
wrongs.
I've
lead a fairly good
life
will I go to heaven ?
Good depends on who you compare yourself to. We can
always
find some better and worse than ourselves, but God's standard is
himself,
or in other words, perfection. Who can stand a chance? The Bible says:
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God,"
Rom 3:23 (NIV) and
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Rom 6:23 (NIV)
How
then can I be good
enough
to get to Heaven ?
You can't! There is no
way
you can be good enough to earn your way into heaven. Salvation is a
free
gift:
"For God so loved the
world
that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not
perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (NIV)
What
about those who have never heard the Gospel or had access to the Gospel?
The
bible says:
"You will seek me and find me when you
seek me with all your heart." (Jer 29:13 NIV)
For
since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-- his eternal
power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen, being understood from
what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Rom 1:20 NIV)
"That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or
does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. But
the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be
beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will
be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much
more will be asked. (Luke 12:47-48 NIV)
How
then can I be saved?
Rom 10:9-11 says, "that if you
confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart
that
God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your
heart
that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, 'Anyone who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.'" (NIV)
Is
it true that may roads
lead
to the same destination? Or that many religions will get us to heaven?
No!
In John 14:6 Jesus
answered,
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except
through me."
The Bible also says:
"For there is one God and
one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus," 1 Tim 2:5 5
(NIV)
So
how then do I become a
Christian?
It is so simple that it is
almost
too easy! Confess to God that you're a sinner and that you need his
forgiveness.
Believe that His death on the cross and resurrection paid the penalty
for
our sins, and ask Jesus to make you born again, for Jesus said:
"In reply Jesus declared,
'I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is
born
again.'" John 3:3 (NIV) Then do not be ashamed of Him for He
said: "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also
acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me
before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. (Matt 10:32-33 NIV)
How
do I maintain my
relationship
with God ?
Get a Bible and read it every
day.
Pray. Find some other believers and join a good Bible believing church
and don't be ashamed to tell others about God's word. But most of all
obey.
For the Lord says to obey is better than sacrifice.
1 Sam 15:22-23 "And Samuel said,
'Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as
in
obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than
sacrifice,
and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of
witchcraft,
and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.'" (KJV)
After I become a
Christian will
everything go perfectly and will I get rich ?
No
and probably not.
Jesus
said:
"Remember
the word
that I
said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have
persecuted
me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they
will
keep yours also." John 15:20 (KJV)
But
you will have a peace
that will
leave most of the world scratching their heads. Jesus said:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I
do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be
troubled
and do not be afraid." John 14:27 (NIV)
He also said, "I have told you these things, so
that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But
take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33 (NIV)
The Bible also says:
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and
peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the
power
of the Holy Spirit." Rom 15:13 (NIV) "And the peace of God, which
transcends
all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus."
Phil 4:7 (NIV)
Can
I become a Christian,
so
that I can get into heaven, and then live my life the same way as I
always
have?
You probably could. There are a
lot of people who do that. But I believe they are some of the most
miserable
people on the planet. It is not fun living a double life. Jesus said:
"No
servant can serve two
masters.
Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted
to
the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Luke 16:13 (NIV) and
"So, because you are lukewarm--
neither hot nor cold-- I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Rev
3:16
(NIV)
And
why would you want to?
You cannot
do better for yourself than what the Lord would desire for you. Jesus
said:
"Ask and it will be given to
you;
seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For
everyone
who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door
will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him
a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then,
though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask
him!" Matt 7:7-11 (NIV)
Do
not take my word for any of this but get a Bible for yourself and look
